The Ada Arts Council was founded in 1992 by a dedicated group of 13 community members, including artists, business owners, public officials, and others who shared a passion for the arts. The Arts Council's mission, as outlined in its Articles of Incorporation, is “to encourage participation in and the appreciation of the arts by the residents of Ada, Michigan, and its surrounding areas.”
Since its inception, the Arts Council has organized a variety of events and initiatives to promote the arts. Its most prominent event is the annual Arts in Ada festival, held each May in the heart of Ada Village on Bronson Street. This festival showcases the work of more than 80-120 artists across diverse media and features live music and dance performances on an outdoor stage.
In addition to the festival, the Council has hosted featured artist displays and receptions, photography exhibits and competitions, as well as art classes and workshops. Each year, it also awards a scholarship to a Grand Valley State University student pursuing studies in the performing or visual arts.
The Arts Council is led by a volunteer Board of Directors, which currently has 13 members. Beyond the Board, we actively encourage artists and community members to participate in our events or contribute as volunteers.
As a nonprofit, the Council operates entirely through the dedication of volunteers. Community involvement is essential to our mission of fostering a vibrant cultural atmosphere in Ada. We believe our town is a wonderful place to live and work, and we are committed to nurturing its artistic and cultural growth. If you share our passion for the arts, we invite you to get involved and help us continue making Ada a thriving creative community.
